The Director of Sterile Processing is responsible for directing and overseeing all activities, performance, and outcomes including budgetary/financial of Sterile Processing of all locations, including providing expert recommendations to the clinics on a twenty-four-hour basis, at Keck Medicine of USC including the Endoscopy Center. The Director is responsible for the competencies, training, and performance for all staff regarding cleaning, disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization of medical devices. The Director coordinates with the OR schedule and assures effective utilization of surgical instruments. The Director participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and standards of care and monitors the compliance. The Director is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the Department, Hospital, and Keck Medical Center of USC Health System. Essential Duties: Responsible for the planning, organizing, developing, and directing the operations, activities, and financial performance of the Sterile Processing Departments for the entire organization. Establishes, directs, and monitors methods and procedures for managing, preparing, handling and storing of all sterile instruments, sterile equipment, scopes and scope processing equipment, and facilities. Reviews, develops, and implements all new/revised policies, procedures, and practices related to the hospital and the Sterile Processing ensuring that they meet or exceed governing regulations (Title 22, JCAHO, and AAMI) requirements and standards. Establishes and maintains performance improvement and quality control activities of Sterile Processing and the hospital P&P that support JCAHO, AAMI, and infection control standards of care. Plans for the provision and scope of services though policies and procedures and appropriate levels of qualified and competent staff to include provisions for orientation, training, development and continuing education of the staff. Establishes and maintains appropriate competencies for staff. Designs an internal structure that promotes team development, decision making, and conflict resolution. Responsible for establishing systems that monitor the support and practice that contributes to the development of customer service standards and expectations, while promoting patient safety, staff and physician satisfaction, Promotes and maintains cohesive collaboration between the ORs and SPD leadership teams including our surgeon/physician leaders Optimizes operations by analyzing business and resource management opportunities, indicating advantages of alternatives and recommending course of action to resolve any concerns. Uses PDCA to continually improve operations, incorporating collaboration across teams. Directs and integrates the departments services on intradepartmental, interdepartmental, and hospital wide levels. Integrates department service within the hospitals mission and core values. This includes timely and accurate case cart management to ensure appropriate sterile instruments/equipment and soft goods are available for scheduled cases. Ensures appropriate controls are in place to protect assets of the facility related to equipment and instrumentation. Performs other related duties as assigned Required Qualifications: Req Specialized/technical training Graduate of an accredited Sterile Processing or Surgical Technician program. Req Bachelor’s degree Degree required within 3 years of hire date. Req 5 years Sterile Processing experience in a lead/management capacity. Req Must have demonstrated leadership and administrative capabilities and strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and creative problem solving abilities Preferred Qualifications: Pref Master’s degree Degree in related field Pref Manager Level Sterile Processing Certification. Required Licenses/Certifications: Req Certified Registered Central Service Technician – CRCST (IAHCSMM) National Certification for Central Sterile Processing required. Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only) The annual base salary range for this position is $110,240.00 – $181,896.00.
