Position Summary As an academic advisor, this individual is responsible for designing and delivering a full range of high-level academic advising services in consultation with the department chair/s, CAO, and Faculty. The following functions must be performed in a fast-paced environment with a high level of autonomy, where consequences are both immediate and long-range, and are highly visible both within and outside the organization: The incumbent will be expected to draw on experience as a seasoned academic adviser to manage all aspects of graduate and undergraduate student affairs for one of the top-ranked Art History departments in the U.S. Develop, implement, and modify policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective administration of student advising, scheduling and enrollment, departmental course offerings, graduate admissions, funding support, events, and alumni programs for approximately 250 undergraduate majors/minors and 50 graduate students. Prepare and process student awards and fellowships issued by the UCLA Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture. Primary duties include academic advising on degree requirements, campus policies and procedures; course scheduling and room assignments; record-keeping and assessment of academic progress; administration of financial aid, awards and scholarship programs; management of graduate admission process; data compilation and analysis; faculty support; and event planning/coordination. Participate in ongoing, campus-wide training in academic counseling and student advising. Represent the department at various committee meetings, student orientations, and events. Additional duties include the supervision, training, and evaluation of the Student Academic Advisor (SSA2) for the Department of Classics and Program in Indo-European Studies (PIES) and serve as backup. Complete other, special projects as assigned by the CAO or department Chair(s). Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. (Required) Ability to establish and maintain a positive, collaborative working environment in the face of change (Required) Demonstrated skill in directing and supervising support staff, including: a. training b. organizing and prioritizing workflow to accomplish established objectives c. making work assignments d. delegating responsibility e. motivating subordinates to effectively manage tasks.
