DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking a skilled ITS Systems and Metro Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) to join our growing team in Santa Ana, CA. This role is critical in supporting traffic signal and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects across multiple jurisdictions and driving strategic pursuits, building client relationships, and securing new opportunities in ITS and ICM markets. You’ll lead efforts in system integration, troubleshooting, and upgrades for traffic signal communications and control systems, while collaborating with local agencies and Caltrans to improve regional mobility, as well as collaborating with internal technical teams and external stakeholders to position Michael Baker as a trusted leader in advanced transportation solutions. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring staff and supporting team development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively identify and pursue new ITS and ICM project opportunities with public agencies and private partners.
- Lead proposal development efforts, including RFP analysis, crafting win strategies, and coordinating with technical teams to deliver competitive submissions.
- Develop capture plans and maintain a pipeline of upcoming pursuits aligned with organizational growth goals.
- Build and strengthen client relationships to position the company for future opportunities.
- Maintain, expand, and repair traffic signal communication and control systems.
- Diagnose and resolve traffic flow and system issues; recommend and implement improvements.
- Design and integrate ITS components including CCTV cameras, fiber optics, wireless interconnect, and Ethernet-based systems.
- Upgrade and maintain central traffic management systems.
- Collaborate with city engineers, technical staff, and Caltrans on multi-jurisdictional coordination and signal timing plans.
- Provide system integration, signal timing, and implementation support for regional projects such as RTSSP.
- Install and integrate signal hardware/software with agency central systems.
- Deliver ongoing maintenance and support for traffic signal communications and ITS infrastructure.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing technical guidance and training to support professional growth.
- Assist in developing team capabilities through knowledge sharing, training initiatives, and process improvement.
- Support project planning and resource allocation to ensure efficient and timely delivery of services
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- 10-15 years of experience with traffic signal systems, ITS technologies, and related transportation infrastructure.
- PE License in the state of CA
- Proven track record in business development, including identifying opportunities, leading proposal efforts, and securing new contracts in ITS and Metro ICM markets.
- Strong troubleshooting and integration skills for complex traffic signal and ITS systems.
- Familiarity with Caltrans standards and multi-agency coordination, including experience engaging with public agencies and stakeholders to build relationships and position for future pursuits.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams and marketing staff to develop winning strategies and proposals.
- Experience with regional synchronization programs (e.g., RTSSP) preferred.
- Hands-on expertise in upgrading central traffic management systems preferred.
- Knowledge of serial and Ethernet-based communication systems preferred.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills to support client engagement and pursuit strategies.
- Ability to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is up to $200,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate. This role is also eligible for a discretionary bonus based upon corporate and individual performance
