Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Dispatch Supervisor, the Transit Bus Attendant provides the following services: cleaning and washing of Transit vehicles including heavy duty Compress Natural Gas (CNG) buses and passenger vans; connecting the CNG fueling dispensers to the bus; checking fuel pressure on CNG vehicles; charging electric vehicles, performing light maintenance; checking fluids, tire pressure and lights; and completing fueling reports. The Transit Bus Attendant is responsible for vehicle wash services for external customers, including vehicle pickup and return. Maintain the service work area and equipment, and ensure that vehicles and the yard are secure each evening.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of driving laws as specified in the California Vehicle Code. (Required)
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 50 to 75 pounds. (Required)
  • 1.Skill in the safe operation of various passenger vehicles to provide transportation as directed. (Required)
  • 2. Skill in establishing and maintaining tactful cooperative relationships with supervisors, passengers, co-workers. (Required)
  • 3. Ability to maintain accurate, legible electronic logs and records. (Required)
  • 4. Ability to be trained and understand complex procedures on CNG and electric vehicle fueling, charging, and related monitoring. (Required)
  • 5. Ability to be trained in the appropriate use of wheelchair lifts and other special equipment. (Required)
  • 6. Ability to detect irregular vehicle performance to recognize required maintenance or repairs. (Required)
  • 7. Ability to clean and service automobiles, buses and related equipment. (Required)
  • 8. Ability to work extended hours to meet all departmental responsibilities. (Required)
  • 9. Demonstrated ability to use basic tools required to maintain automobiles and buses. (Required)
  • 10. Ability to speak English on a one-to-one basis using appropriate vocabulary to obtain information and explain procedures related to bus/automotive repair, services, and maintenance and skill in understanding basic oral instructions. (Required)
  • 11. Knowledge of UCLA campus and surrounding Los Angeles area. (Preferred)
  • 12. Ability to read and understand technical bus and automotive manuals. (Preferred)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

    • Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA Commercial Class B License with Passenger Transportation (PV) endorsement in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
    • Ability to obtain/maintain a current medical certificate with DMV/DOT. ()
    • Must possess/maintain a valid California Class B Driver’s License with air brake and passenger endorsement. ()

    Special Conditions for Employment

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • Department of Transportation: The position is subject to Department of Transportation regulations. The candidate(s) successful completion of drug screening is required. Continued employment is contingent upon participation in a Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
  • Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV “Pull Notice System” and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
