The medical school’s 915 full- and part-time and 753 volunteer faculty members are involved in teaching, providing medical care, and conducting research into the health challenges facing the 21st century. The school has 26 departments, ranging from basic science research to clinical medical and surgical specialties. It has research, clinical and teaching relationships with the VA Long Beach Healthcare System and Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Your Role on the Team Provides direct research and teaching support. Under general guidance and with latitude for exercising independent technical judgment, performs research related activities limited in scope and complexity in the Division of Nephrology, for Dr. Thu Le’s laboratory. Dr. Le’s laboratory studies renal mechanisms of hypertension and genetic determinants of susceptibility to kidney disease progression. Our work spans basic science using mouse models of diseases to translational and clinical research. The incumbent will work independently on projects under the direction of Dr. Le to perform extensive laboratory work, including breeding and maintaining complex genetically-modified mouse lines, genotyping, performing survival surgeries to induce mouse models of hypertension and kidney disease, and physiologic phenotyping of mice. The incumbent will be responsible for data collection, presentation and storage, assist in manuscript writing, and routine maintenance of laboratory facilities. The incumbent is required to work cooperatively with a diverse laboratory staff. Prior research experience with demonstrated independent responsibilities and activities. Clear and professional communication skills; verbal and written. Ability to function well in a team environment. Bachelor’s degree in clinical and translational sciences or biological sciences and experience in clinical research required. Valid California Driver’s License and have daily access to car for all work hours Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field and minimum 2 year experience in bench research required. Prior research/work experience with demonstrated independent responsibilities and activities. Candidates must have clear and professional verbal and written communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze a problem from inception to completion and provide suggested solutions. Time management and organization skills will be critical for successful completion of project details. Ability to multi-task, complete project details, and problem solve independently are highly desired. Critical attention to detail and ability to function well in a team environment. High proficiency in the use of MS Office programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel with data entry skills strongly preferred.
