Your Role on the Team Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Affairs, the Student Support Coordinator will provide support and programmatic activities focused on student wellness, self-care, life and coping skills, for Public Health undergraduate majors, specifically underrepresented, first-generation, veteran, and our female populations. Meet with and support students in distress or experiencing extenuating circumstances while utilizing basic counseling skills to assess students’ needs. Establish clear learning outcomes for all programs and methods to measure achievement of all outcomes. Assist with various Public Health events and activities. Advise undergraduates about applicable procedures and assist with the interpretation of University policies and procedures. Works independently under general supervision. What It Takes to be Successful Required: Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations. Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership. Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements. Ability to identify unique challenges facing underrepresented populations, i.e. first-generation, low-income, veteran, and female students. 3 years of experience working with young adults (high school to college aged) in an education setting or other helping field, i.e. social work, counseling, etc. Preferred: Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
