Department Summary Infrastructure Services provides flexible, reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services (network services, platform services, data center operations and management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity, productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown. Position Summary The Senior Communications Infrastructure Engineer will lead the planning, design, documentation, coordination, and maintenance of the communication infrastructure systems that ensure reliable and secure network connectivity throughout the campus. This role will monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, provide technical support to end-users, manage hardware and software, develop security protocols, and stay up-to-date with emerging technologies. The Senior Communications Infrastructure Engineer will lead collaboration with UCLA departments, vendors, internal ITS teams, technicians, and analysts to deliver building communications and installation assignments for signal systems. The Senior Communications Infrastructure Engineer will also manage vendor relationships and mentor junior engineers. The Senior Communications Infrastructure Engineer will positively impact UCLA’s operations and culture by ensuring UCLA’s IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university’s academic mission. This team member will advance the University’s mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. Qualifications Five years experience working in one or more of the following fields: communication infrastructure, information technology or network operations, or a related field. (Required) Significant experience delivering reliable and quality communication infrastructure services. Proven experience supporting large-scale network implementations and upgrades. (Required) Significant experience delivering solutions based on telecommunications industry standards such as ANSI, ITA, EIA, and BICSI. (Required) Significant experience complying with state, local, NEC, and NFPA codes and standards. (Required) Significant experience with the installation and maintenance of conduits, fiber-optic cables, and copper cables. (Required) Significant experience with designing and deploying large enterprise cabling infrastructure. Significant experience designing outside plant conduit and cable infrastructure systems. (Required) Experience designing the layout of horizontal cable pathways, telecom rooms, and backbone infrastructure. Experience conducting budget and pricing activities for infrastructure cabling systems. (Required) Seven years or more experience working in one or more of the following fields: communication infrastructure, information technology or network operations. (Preferred) Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university (Preferred) Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. Can relay technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required) Able to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with a diverse community of colleagues including team members, stakeholders, and customers. (Required) Advanced organizational skills, ability to balance priorities, deliver concurrent projects to various stakeholders. Ability to work in a project-based environment using project management practices. (Preferred) Special Conditions for Employment This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular visits to campus as needed (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement). The anticipated pay range for this position is $121,568-$143,925, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
