Authorization Coordinator- Central Authorization Unit – FT Day Shift Updated: Mar 6, 2024 Location: Anaheim Job Type: Department: Central Authorization Unit UC Title: ADMITTING WORKER PRN Position Number: 41066570 Reports to: Patient Access Services Mgr 2 Working Title: Authorization Coordinator Cost Center: Central Authorization Unit (428575) Bargaining Unit: AFSCME FLSA: Nonexempt Date Created: 2/29/2024 Job Code: 009031 Hours: 40 Shift: Day Shift FTE: 1 Position Summary: Incumbent is responsible for obtaining all necessary authorizations in accordance with established guidelines. Verifies eligibility, obtains benefit information, and generates letters for authorizations. Responds to Member Services and Call Center inquiries and resolves any identified authorization issues which arise. Salary Range: Hourly Rate Minimum $24.66 Midpoint $27.66 Maximum $30.65 Required Qualifications: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System Demonstrated experience using MS Office Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings Previous experience with computer registration and registration scheduling system Ability to interpret and understand various medical insurance plans and make accurate determinations regarding coverage General knowledge of ICD9 and CPT codes Must be able to travel to off site physician practices Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology Minimum one (1) year recent experience (within past two (2) years) registering patients in a hospital or clinic, working as a Medical Assistant, or working in medical billing Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience with authorization process and surgical scheduling Familiarity of Joint Commission standards Experience with Epic Bilingual skill in Spanish or Vietnamese or Chinese Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms Conditions of Employment: The University of California, Irvine (UCI) seeks to provide a safe and healthy environment for the entire UCI community.
