SURFACE WATER GROUP
Michael Baker International’s Surface Water Group provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum stormwater management services, ranging from hydrology and hydraulics through the design of infrastructure improvements. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from planning through design and construction.

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is actively seeking a Surface Water/Drainage Civil Associate to join our Santa Ana, CA office. The Surface Water/Drainage Civil Associate will join an established team who work on watershed planning studies, Dam studies, Levee improvement plans, FEMA Floodplain Mapping and stormwater programs and projects for clients. The Civil Associate will assist on projects in the following disciplines: watershed assessments, watershed planning studies, storm water/drainage master plans, storm drain design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, floodplain mapping studies, flood control, stream channel restoration design, and ecosystem restoration.

  • You will assist Project Engineers in common water resources tasks such as design of storm water management systems, pipe hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, scour, Floodplain Evaluation, hydrology and hydraulic modeling, and show experience with NPDES Permit Compliance both in documentation (i.e. SWDR and WQMP documents) and design of water quality BMPs.
  • You will monitor and communicate project related issues, scope changes variances and contingencies that may arise during the construction of projects.
  • You will meet with and effectively communicate with project partners, project stakeholders and general public to maintain strong relationships.
  • Develop and maintain trusted adviser relationships with key clients.
  • Participate in ongoing strategic positioning for major surface water project opportunities.
  • Manage client relationships and guide the application of our services within the Surface Water practice area to best serve the interests of the client.
  • Cross market additional Michael Baker International services to best serve our client base.
  • Be responsible for successful contracting and project execution, working closely with regional Michael Baker International staff and office leadership.
  • You will lead and perform the preparation of hydrological and hydraulic calculations, modeling, and preparation of technical reports, technical exhibits and design drawings for design-bid-build and design projects.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Four-year degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering degree.
  • 0-3 years of experience or coursework in hydrology and hydraulics, stormwater modeling, and/or water resources design.
  • Engineer-In-Training certification preferred, with intent to obtain Professional Engineer’s (PE) License.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, ArgGIS, and Bluebeam.
  • Experience with design analysis software, such as HEC-RAS, Bentley Pondpack or similar (i.e. ICPR, PONDS), Flo-2D and SWMM models preferred.

COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $66,000-$90,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
