Our client is looking to add a Construction Project Engineer to their team for a project located in Pasenda CA. This is a 6 month contract opportunity.
The Construction Project Engineer will drive the final stages of a state-of-the-art Quantum Physics laboratory at Caltech. This is a field-heavy, “boots-on-the-ground” role focused on identifying, documenting, and resolving deficient work to ensure the project meets the extreme precision standards required for high-level scientific research.
You will be the “eyes and ears” of the Superintendent on the floor. Your primary goal is to identify incomplete or deficient scope before the formal punch list begins, ensuring a seamless handover to the university.
- Field Inspection: Spend the majority of your day on the floor, identifying architectural and MEP deficiencies.
- Documentation: Log all findings into Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) with clear descriptions, photos, and locations.
- Subcontractor Coordination: Distribute reports to trades and work directly with foremen to schedule and verify the completion of remaining work.
Qualifications
– 1-2 years minimum experience in construction (GC preferred), with punch list or pre-punch QC experience strongly preferred
– ACC experience not required – willingness to learn is expected
– Must be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently in the field without constant direction
– excellent communicator – this role involves daily coordination with subcontractors and trade foremen
– Thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where priorities shift and accountability is high
– Detail-oriented with a mindset focused on quality and preventing rework

responsibilities:
- Translate and coordinate project document information (Construction Documents, submittals, RFI’s) for field construction use
- Coordinate subcontractor work
- Coordinate and/or perform layout for self-performed work
- Track labor and quantities for self-performed work
- Order and track materials for self-performed work
- Verify installed work
- Identify and resolve omissions and inconsistencies within the project documents by working through the RFI process with appropriate project team members
- Communicate resolution to all affected parties in a timely manner and ensure completion
- Develop and maintain 3-week look ahead schedule using Lean tools
- Coordinate and assist with scheduling of assigned subcontractors and self -performed work using Last Planner (Weekly Work Plan, Constraint Log and Plan Percent Complete) and Pull Planning (Collaboration+Communication+Commitment).
- Assist the Superintendent with equipment scheduling, work techniques and material deliveries
- Participate in creation and implementation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
- Execute the Project Specific Quality Management Plan (PSQMP)
- Create and maintain the following jobsite records:
- Self performed work quantities
- Labor productivity
- Document logs
- Daily diaries
- RFI’s & Submittals
- Change management process
- Material logs
- Project correspondence
- Participate in project close-outs
- Create and manage Punch-lists
- Schedule and assist in Owner training
- Assist the Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager with Subcontractor close-out
- Develop archives and “Record” documentation
