Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Safety Manager / Driver Trainer to oversee the safety programs and driver training initiatives within our organization. This dual-role position is responsible for ensuring the safety of all employees, specifically those operating company vehicles, and providing the necessary training to ensure drivers meet compliance standards and company expectations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in safety management, driver training, and regulatory compliance.
What You’ll Do:
Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Create, maintain, and update safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations are in compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations (OSHA, DOT, etc.).
Safety Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of company facilities, equipment, and vehicles to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
Incident Investigation: Lead investigations of accidents and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend preventive actions.
Safety Training & Awareness: Develop and conduct regular safety training sessions for all employees, focusing on best practices, safety protocols, and emergency response procedures.
Data Reporting & Analysis: Track and report on safety metrics, accident trends, and key performance indicators. Prepare and present reports to management.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential safety risks within operations, collaborating with management to ensure the safety of all personnel.
Driver Training Programs: Implement, and manage comprehensive driver training programs, including new driver onboarding and ongoing driver development.
Behind-the-Wheel Training: Conduct hands-on training sessions with drivers to ensure safe and efficient driving practices, including defensive driving, vehicle inspection, and accident prevention.
Performance Monitoring: Evaluate driver performance through assessments, reviews, and road tests to ensure compliance with company safety standards.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all drivers are trained in accordance with federal and state driving regulations, including DOT requirements, hours of service, and licensing requirements.
Driver Certification: Maintain accurate training records and ensure that all drivers receive certification in key areas such as safety, compliance, and operational procedures.
Feedback and Coaching: Provide constructive feedback to drivers, offering guidance and coaching to help them improve driving skills and safety awareness.
Accident/Incident Response: Assist in the investigation and follow-up of accidents involving company vehicles, identifying training gaps and making recommendations for corrective actions.
About you:
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
3+ years of experience in safety management and/or driver training.
Previous experience in transportation, fleet management, or a similar industry is highly preferred.
Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) (preferred but not required).
Driver training or defensive driving instructor certification (preferred).
In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other safety regulations.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Ability to assess and manage risk effectively.
Proficient in using safety management software and training tools.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Ability to conduct physical inspections of vehicles and equipment.
Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
Salary range is 75K – 85K
