Description
Join our team as an Entry-Level Railroad Track Worker and help maintain and build critical rail infrastructure that keeps freight and transportation systems moving safely and efficiently. You’ll work alongside experienced railroad crews to install, repair, inspect, and maintain railroad tracks, switches, crossings, and related systems in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities
Track Installation and Maintenance:
· Assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining railroad tracks, ties, switches, and rail components.
· Load, transport, and organize rail materials, tools, and equipment at job sites.
· Operate hand tools, hydraulic tools, power tools, tampers, grinders, and track maintenance equipment safely.
· Support crews with rail replacement, tie installation, ballast work, and track alignment.
· Assist with inspections and preventative maintenance of railroad infrastructure.
· Perform cleanup and maintain safe, organized work areas along rail lines and construction zones.
Safety and Compliance:
· Attend daily safety meetings and follow all railroad and OSHA safety procedures.
· Wear required PPE including hard hats, reflective gear, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
· Follow railroad operating rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and heavy equipment safety standards.
· Maintain awareness around moving trains, machinery, and active rail traffic.
Documentation and Reporting:
· Assist with tracking materials, tools, and maintenance activities.
· Report damaged track components, safety hazards, or operational issues promptly.
· Support supervisors with inspection reports and daily work documentation.
Work Environment and Expectations
This position requires physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions and may involve heavy lifting, walking long distances on uneven terrain, climbing, and working around trains and heavy machinery. Employees may work extended shifts, weekends, holidays, nights, and travel assignments depending on railroad schedules and emergency repairs.
Requirements
· Must be at least 18 years old.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
· Ability to lift up to 80 lbs repeatedly throughout the workday.
· Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
· Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, overtime, and on-call assignments.
· Willingness to learn railroad safety rules and track maintenance procedures.
· Must pass a drug and background check.
Job Type: Full-time; Benefits: Health insurance, paid apprenticeship training, overtime opportunities, travel pay, per diem opportunities, retirement plans, and advancement into skilled industrial trades; Schedule: Monday–Friday, with overtime, shutdown schedules, travel assignments, nights, and weekends as required.
