DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking a Planning Technical Assistant (Planner I) to join our team in our Santa Ana, CA office.

The Planning Department in Santa Ana is an expanding department that is focused on utilizing our expertise to shape Southern California’s landscape. The Planning Technical Assistant position will provide technical support for the entitlement planning services practice, primarily focusing on processing development applications and plans and permitting with opportunities to support other planning initiatives. Other opportunities to support would include fostering agency and client relations. We are part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting other departments with implementing infrastructure projects related to land development, transportation, and surface water. Michael Baker accommodates those that wish to work remotely, however, this position will require a hybrid schedule and driving to agency offices, site visits and similar field work.

The duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in the preparation of written technical planning studies and recommendations.
  • Conduct analytical research with supervision on planning issues related to ongoing projects.
  • Prepare and update project schedules and excel files to manage and track project status.
  • Conduct field work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: Proven work experience as a Technical Assistant or in a similar role.
  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized and able to multitask across multiple projects.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy and problem-solving.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Environmental Science/Studies, Landscape Architecture or a related discipline and 0 – 2 years of experience with related projects.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills, excellent writing and oral communications skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Adobe Suite. Experience with GIS and/or AutoCAD and/ or Bluebeam preferred.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $66,000-$90,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
