STORMWATER PRACTICE

Michael Baker International’s Stormwater Group provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of NPDES and MS4 permit needs. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from planning through design and construction. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.

DESCRIPTION

The Surface Water Project Manager will join an industry leading team who develops and implements stormwater programs and projects supporting CGP, IGP, and MS4 permit compliance for our wide range of clients. The preferred candidate will have extensive working experience in construction stormwater, including the development, management, and implementation of large-scale programs. This experience will allow them to quickly provide support to established clients in the commercial, utility, home building, and municipal industries.

The candidate should exhibit strong technical judgement and leadership in erosion and sediment control theory, temporary and permanent BMP design, client, contractor, and regulator interaction, and database management. They should be well versed in both the 2009 and 2022 CGPs, with special interest and insight into new opportunities under the 2022 CGP regulations.

The successful candidate will cultivate and maintain client relationships, as well as lead project pursuits by developing proposals and leading interviews. They will define, assign, lead, and review work produced by the project delivery team while managing exciting and challenging projects with dynamic scopes, schedules, and budgets. Staff mentorship and development is a responsibility of the Surface Water Project Manager, as well as the development and oversight of budgets and schedules. Additionally, the successful candidate will provide technical direction, support and strategic planning while being a visible and active member of the Surface Water community through professional organization involvement.

  • Develop and maintain trusted adviser relationships with key clients.
  • Identify industry needs and lead market awareness including involvement in professional associations, technical articles, conferences, and boards.
  • Collaborate with our established southern California Surface Water Managers and Practice Leaders for project resource management, workshare, and the development of targeted client service action plans.
  • Participate in ongoing strategic positioning for major surface water project opportunities.
  • Manage client relationships and guide the application of our services within the Surface Water practice area to best serve the interests of the client.
  • Cross market additional Michael Baker International services to best serve our client base.
  • Be responsible for successful contracting and project execution, working closely with regional Michael Baker International staff and office leadership.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD) and Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) required, CGP Trainer of Record (ToR) is a plus
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline
  • Minimum 7 years of Surface Water experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Knowledge of key regulatory issues, potential clients, and the impacts of those issues to the clients in the southern California surface water market.
  • Strong track record of executing projects and overseeing successful project delivery of a diversity of surface water projects for utilities, private developers, and City, County and State agencies
  • Demonstrated supervisor and mentoring skills
  • Strong proposal writing and presentation skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit to grow our Southern California Storm Water practice
  • Engineering judgment with background in the development and implementation of stormwater programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, public speaking ability, and problem-solving approach
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and conduct multiple ongoing efforts
  • The drive to be a leader in the company and in the professional community

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $107,000-$155,000 This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
