The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is seeking a Research Lab Technician I to join its team. The Research Lab Technician will assist various research projects to understand molecular mechanisms of human diseases. The position may require occasional flexible work hours depending on the demands of the experimental protocols and processing timelines. Responsibilities: Perform genomic and epigenomic experiments using molecular biology techniques in human cells Execute experiments with the use of antibodies (western blots, immunoprecipitations, etc) and with standard molecular biology techniques (such as PCR amplification, DNA extraction, cloning, transfection, and gel electrophoresis) Learn new techniques quickly and a strict attention to details of experimental protocols Provide general and specific laboratory support such as ordering supplies, coordinating laboratory safety, organizing laboratory materials and supplies, and maintaining laboratory equipment Possess excellent organizational and communication skills to collaborate successfully in the multi-lab nature of this project Write and present experimental results Utilize standard word processing programs (Word, Excel, Power point, etc.) Qualifications: Associates or Bachelors degree (or equivalent) Familiarity with molecular and cell biology laboratory techniques Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks Excellent organizational skills Experience with genomic technologies is not essential but would be helpful Additional experience using next generation sequencing/bioinformatics would be plus The hourly rate range for this position is $19.60 – $23.05.
