Job Summary The position is for a research scientist who will study the role of cellular stress in regulating the degradation of mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum. Essential Job Duties Design and conduct experiments to investigate how cellular stress regulates endoplasmic reticulum degradation (35%) Design and conduct experiments to investigate how cellular stress regulates mitochondrial degradation (20%) Apply molecular biology techniques to resolve how phosphorylation events regulate endoplasmic reticulum degradation (15%) Execute and analyze whole-genome CRISPRi screens to find factors responsible for endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondrial degradation (15%) Prepare research reports and presentations for internal meetings, publications, and conferences (15%) Basic Qualifications PhD in biological sciences Five years postdoctoral experience Detailed knowledge of molecular biology, mitochondrial biology, endoplasmic reticulum biology, and autophagy At least 3 years of experience with whole-genome CRISPRi screen At least 3 years of experience performing cell biological experiments independently, including live cell tracking, immunofluorescence, tissue culture, flow cytometry At least 2 years of experience with mass-spectrometry-based proteomics Preferred Qualifications Experience mentoring undergraduates or graduate students Experience presenting at international scientific meetings Required Documents Resume To be considered for this position please visit our web site and apply on line at the following link: https://hr.caltech.edu/work/job_openings We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
