MILITARY VETERANS

The Scheduler performs clerical and communication functions in the department/clinic. She/He schedules patient appointments and provides courteous reception in the department/clinic. He/She answers phones and registers new patients. Various office duties including but not limited to filing and sorting. Reviews new patient referrals/authorization for adequate coding. Performs new patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling as necessary. Must work with any and every physician in the Department/Clinic. Has in depth knowledge of all the functions of the front office. Performs clerical and communication functions. Schedules patient appointments and provides courteous reception in the clinic. Collects co-pays, answers phones, checks patient in/out and coordinates scheduling of diagnostic testing for patients. Various office duties including but not limited to filing and sorting. Other duties as assigned. Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently. Must be comfortable with computers and medical terminology. In depth knowledge of all insurance types. Essential Duties: Act as appointment scheduler for all physicians in the practice. Ensures that all appointments are scheduled appropriately. Assist and coordinate with the Lead Scheduler in scheduling the appointments. Prepare all the monthly appointment lists for the physicians and management. Ensures that all appointments are registered appropriately in the scheduling system, including patient registration, patient and insurance information and any other information needed. Provides fee estimates to patients. Maintains and works on the bump and wait lists. Registers new patients. Performs various office duties such as filing and sorting of incoming faxes. Reviews all new patient referrals/authorizations to ensure adequate coding, based on patient diagnosis. Communicates with patients, referring physicians and medical groups to obtain appropriate codes when needed. Verifies insurance, registers new patients, and determines which subspecialist is appropriate. Prepares daily and monthly appointment reports for the physicians and management. Performs hospital charge capture for facility billing, audits for incomplete and/or missing facility charges. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Req High school or equivalent Req Organization/time management skills. Req Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills. Req Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients. Req Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, etc. Preferred Qualifications: Pref 1 year Experience in health care setting. Pref Knowledge of medical terminology. Required Licenses/Certifications: Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only) The hourly rate range for this position is $19.00 – $29.77.
