Eaton’s Electrical Group is currently seeking an Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our Santa Ana, CA facility.

 

Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Only candidates within a 50 miles radius of Santa Ana, CA. will be considered.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $99,000 – $145,000.

 

Salary is based on candidate skills, experience, qualifications, and overall business and market considerations.

What you’ll do:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design, analysis, and development of product lines and prototype builds, supporting projects from concept through manufacturing launch. This role is a key contributor within a cross functional team, driving mechanical design decisions to ensure design excellence, manufacturability, compliance, and product reliability.

The position requires strong technical leadership, in depth knowledge of engineering standards and codes, and the ability to evaluate, refine, and implement design methods and improvements to achieve business and project objectives.

 

What You’ll Do
The Senior Mechanical Engineer supports product development and manufacturing by collaborating across engineering, quality, certification, and production teams to ensure robust and compliant product designs.

 

In This Function, You Will:

  • Lead and support mechanical design and development activities for new and existing products, including concept development, detailed design, validation, and production release.
  • Collaborate closely with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to identify applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and compliance criteria impacting product design.
  • Support product certification planning and testing, working directly with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) such as UL, CSA, and others as required.
  • Apply knowledge of UL, IEEE, IEC, CSA, DOE, and other relevant standards to ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Support Production and Manufacturing Engineering by performing Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), DFMEA, and DFSS analyses to optimize cost, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize assembly processes, tooling, and test operations.
  • Evaluate existing designs and recommend design improvements or corrective actions to address quality, performance, reliability, or cost challenges.
  • Drive design changes through established engineering change and product lifecycle management (PLM) processes.
  • Maintain accurate and complete design documentation, including drawings, specifications, analysis, and validation reports.
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers, providing guidance on design best practices, standards compliance, and design trade offs.
  • Communicate technical concepts, risks, and decisions clearly to internal stakeholders, peers, and cross functional teams.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of Four (4) years of experience in mechanical engineering 
    OR
  • Master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of two (2) year of experience in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum one year design experience using a CAD software (preferred SolidWorks and Creo)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing products from concept through manufacturing launch, including prototype builds and production ramp up
  • Experience in regulated or industrial product environments subject to safety and compliance requirements
  • Sheet metal design experience

Skills:

  • In depth knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) principles and processes.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing concepts, production processes, and test operations.
  • Ability to balance business needs, customer satisfaction, Eaton quality standards, and cost/profitability goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach engineers, providing actionable feedback and leadership.
  • Ability to work autonomously while also thriving in a collaborative, cross functional team environment.
  • Strong sense of urgency with high attention to detail and accountability.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical ideas to non technical stakeholders.
