LAND DEVELOPMENT PRACTICE
Through an integrated approach to all stages of land development, Michael Baker guides clients through the entire life cycle of a project, from due diligence, initial site planning, and entitlement approvals to final engineering, construction management and surveying. Engineering integrated with in-house planning and surveying excellence and combined with a commitment to achieving clients’ strategic goals, results in quality service and project delivery in a timely and cost-effective manner. Michael Baker’s skilled land development team engages with high-priority clients on a wide range of project types, including commercial and retail developments, industrial and office parks, educational and governmental facilities, housing developments, and public infrastructure.

DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will be joining our robust Land Development team in Santa Ana, CA. The Project Manager position is ideal for a motivated candidate with experience in the land development industry. The candidate must demonstrate strong project management skills and have the ability to adapt to the Michael Baker International operational processes while working with a positive, innovative team comprised of youthful and seasoned professionals. The Project Manager position will grow and manage a team dedicated to land development services to execute existing work and to grow the practice.

  • Lead project delivery in a position responsible for technical design, project financial performance, scope and schedule management, and quality control.
  • You’ll be expected to participate in and/or lead diverse project teams and oversee and mentor staff.
  • Lead business development including technical and price proposal development.
  • Participation in marketing, professional industry involvement, and client development activities.
  • Interaction with internal and external clients to ensure project delivery and client satisfaction.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • You’ll need a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and a minimum 10 years of related industry experience.
  • Registered Professional civil engineer in California.
  • Strong track record of overseeing successful delivery of projects that include land planning and feasibility, entitlements, site design, site grading, earthwork balance, drainage, utilities, sanitary collection and water distribution systems, storm water management, erosion and sediment control designs/plans.
  • Demonstrated supervisor/mentoring skills.
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships on behalf of client interests; experience and professional ties within the commercial, industrial, residential, and /or institutional markets.
  • Drive to be a leader in the company and professional community.
  • Strong engineering judgement with hands-on experience and technical skills in land development design.
  • Experience leading profitable projects, developing and tracking project scope and budget, change orders, and invoicing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team and collaborating with other design professionals to development high quality design solutions resulting in client satisfaction.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit to grow client base and grow the practice.
  • Familiarity with local agencies and first-hand knowledge of permitting process.
  • You’ll have experience participating at local municipal meetings, coordinating with other project professionals, meeting with clients, and meeting/negotiating with various permit agencies.
  • Knowledgeable in water quality management, LID and NPDES requirements.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $125,000-$185,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
